The Young Women of St. Pius

St. Pius V High School is located in one of the poorest Congressional Districts in the United States. The family welfare rate at Pius is 44%, with many of those students receiving assistance through the Student/Sponsor Partnership of New York, a non-profit organization founded by Peter Flanagan, retired from the investment firm of Dillon Read & Co. Some of our students are assisted by the "Be A Friend" sponsorship. 70% of Pius students live in single-parent homes. 43% of our students are African-American or Caribbean and 57% are Hispanic-American or Latina. 78% come to us from the Bronx and the remainder cross the Harlem River each day from Manhattan. St. Pius is the only Catholic high school for girls in the South Bronx, but fully 35.5% of our students are not Catholic. 37% come to St. Pius from the public school system. 85% of our students graduate in four years, compared with a public school on-time rate of 35%.
